Store-bought chai concentrates often taste too sweet or lack depth. That’s why I’m sharing my authentic chai concentrate recipe, which is bold, aromatic, and incredibly easy to make at home.
Prepare the Ingredients: Add all of the dried whole spices to a spice mixer and blend until they become a powder. Crush the ginger until it turns into a paste. Rip open your tea bags to get the loose leaf tea out.
Simmer the Chai Base: In a medium saucepan, add 6 cups of water, spices, ginger, and brown sugar. Simmer for 7-8 minutes, and then add the loose leaf tea. Then, add tea bags (ripped open). Bring everything to a boil, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to develop.
Strain & Store: Remove from heat and strain the concentrate using a sieve lined with cheese cloth into a jar or bottle. Let it cool before storing in the refrigerator.
Make a Chai Latte: When ready to serve, mix equal parts chai concentrate and milk. Heat for a warm latte or pour over ice for a refreshing iced chai.
Notes
If you are using tea bags for your chai concentrate recipe, make sure to rip the tea bags open and pour out the contents into your pot. Removing the outer layer of the teabag will give the chai concentrate a stronger and more robust flavor.
