Salted Caramel Apple Crumble
A delicious and ultra rich apple crumble with a twist!
Ingredients
Apple Pie Filling
- 2 tbsp Earth Balance Butter
- 2 c Chopped Honey Crisp Apples (about 2-3 apples depending on size)
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 2 tbsp Corn Starch
- 3/4 c Water
- 1/4 c Brown Sugar
- 5 Kraft Baking Caramels
- Juice of Half a Lemon
- Hefty Pinch of Sea Salt
Crumble Topping:
- 1 c Flour
- 1/2 c Brown Sugar
- 5 tbsp Earth Balance Butter (melted)
Instructions
Apple Pie Filling
- In a saucepan, heat up your butter until it melts, and then add in your apples, cinnamon powder, water, brown sugar, lemon juice, and sea salt.
- For the corn starch, make it into a slurry – mix it with a bit of water until it fully dissolves, and then add it into your saucepan. This will prevent clumps.
- Once its been boiling for a few minutes, add in your baking caramels. In total, you should cook the mixture for about 7 minutes or so on low medium heat until the apples soften and the mixture thickens.
Crumble Topping
- Mix flour and brown sugar together evenly, and then add in your melted butter.
- Using your hands, gently mix in the melted butter, and it should naturally start to clump into "crumble bits."
Assembly
- Once the filling is done, place it at the bottom of a glass baking dish and then sprinkle your crumble on top of it in an even layer.
- Cook the crumble in the oven at 350 degrees for 20-23 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
